Four lanes

Pick the lane that matches the job, not a package name

Each lane has a defined scope and a realistic visit length. If what you describe in the booking form belongs in a different lane, we say so before we come out rather than after.

Not sure? Read the symptom guide

Lane 01

Seasonal service & deep clean

The standard yearly visit for wall splits and multi-head systems. Indoor head is stripped back to the barrel fan so the parts that actually foul get washed, not wiped.

Suited to
Any split running a full season without a service, or a musty smell on start-up.
Typical visit
60–90 minutes for the first head, 30 minutes for each additional head.
Includes
Filter wash, coil and blower-wheel clean, drain flush and slope check, outdoor coil rinse, electrical connection check, pressure and temperature readings.
Excludes
Refrigerant charge adjustment and any part replacement — quoted separately.

Lane 02

Ducted service & airflow re-balance

For systems where one room overshoots while another never arrives. We measure at the outlets, then re-set dampers against the room load instead of guessing from the controller.

Suited to
Ducted homes with uneven rooms, noisy outlets, or a return filter nobody has found yet.
Typical visit
Two to three hours, depending on zone count and ceiling access.
Includes
Return filter service, indoor coil clean, outlet-by-outlet airflow readings, damper re-balance, zone motor test, flexible duct inspection for crushes and disconnects.
Excludes
Duct replacement and new outlet cutting — assessed and quoted on the day.

Lane 03

Fault finding & repair

A diagnostic visit with a written outcome. We trace the fault, show you the reading that proves it, and give you the repair cost before anything is replaced.

Suited to
Error codes, short cycling, ice on the lines, a unit that will not start, or water where it should not be.
Typical visit
One hour of diagnosis; straightforward repairs are often finished in the same window.
Includes
Electrical and control testing, capacitor and contactor checks, leak search on accessible joints, pressure and superheat readings, sensor verification.
Excludes
Sealed-system work on units where a wall-cavity or buried line set cannot be reached.

Lane 04

Replacement advice & install planning

For systems near the end of their life. We size the replacement against the room, not the old nameplate, and set out what the install actually involves in your building.

Suited to
Units over twelve years old, repeat repairs, or a renovation where head positions are still being decided.
Typical visit
45 minutes on site, with the written plan following by email.
Includes
Room-by-room load estimate, head and outdoor placement options, line-set routing, drainage and condensate path, switchboard capacity note, body-corporate considerations.
Good to know
The site visit and the written plan are quoted together and nothing proceeds until you approve them.

Inside the visit

A service is four jobs, done in order

Most of what makes a system underperform is physical: fouled surfaces, a blocked drain, a filter past saving. The order below is what we work through, and it is the same whether the unit is three years old or thirteen.

Brushes, cloths and wash bottles laid out ready for a coil and filter clean.
Wash kit laid out before the indoor head comes apart — drop sheets down, power isolated, drain bagged.
Step 01

Baseline readings

Power isolated, panels off, and the system run long enough to record return and supply temperatures, fan speed and drain behaviour before anything is touched.

Step 02

Strip and wash

Filters washed and dried, indoor coil and blower wheel cleaned with the drain bagged, and the outdoor coil rinsed from the inside out so debris leaves the fins rather than packing deeper.

Step 03

Drain, electrical and charge check

Condensate line flushed and the slope confirmed, terminals and contactors checked for heat damage, then pressures compared against ambient to see whether the charge is genuinely low.

Step 04

Re-test and hand over

The same readings taken again so the change is visible, remote settings restored to how you had them, and the service card emailed with anything to watch before next season.

Symptom guide

Signs it is time to book, and what we check first

Describe the symptom in your own words on the booking form and we will match it to a lane. This is the shortlist we work from — it is also a fair way to judge whether a quote you have been given elsewhere makes sense.

What you notice

Air is moving but the room never really cools

Usual cause

A fouled indoor coil, a filter past its life, or a genuinely low refrigerant charge.

What we check first

Temperature split across the indoor coil, then pressures against ambient. A clean-and-measure usually settles which of the three it is.

What you notice

It starts, runs a few minutes, then stops

Usual cause

Short cycling on a pressure or thermal cut-out, often from restricted airflow or a failing capacitor.

What we check first

Filter and coil restriction, outdoor fan rotation, capacitor values and the control board fault log.

What you notice

A musty smell for the first minute after start-up

Usual cause

Biofilm on the coil face and inside the blower wheel, with moisture sitting in the drain tray.

What we check first

Blower wheel condition and tray drainage. This is a Lane 01 clean, not a repair — a spray deodoriser only masks it.

What you notice

Water dripping from the indoor head or a wall stain below it

Usual cause

A blocked or back-fallen condensate line, or a tray overflowing because the coil is iced.

What we check first

Drain flush and fall measurement, tray seating, and whether ice on the coil is driving the overflow. Worth booking promptly.

What you notice

The outdoor unit is noticeably louder than last year

Usual cause

Fan bearing wear, a loose panel or mounting foot, or leaf debris against the fan shroud.

What we check first

Fan shaft play, panel and bracket fixings, compressor sound under load, and clearance around the condenser.

What you notice

Running costs climbing while your settings have not changed

Usual cause

Heat exchange getting harder: dirty surfaces both ends, restricted airflow, or ducts leaking into a roof space.

What we check first

Both coils, return filter, and for ducted systems the flexible runs and joins above the ceiling.

What you notice

One room is freezing while another stays warm

Usual cause

A balance problem rather than a capacity problem — dampers set at install and never revisited.

What we check first

Airflow at every outlet, damper positions, zone motor travel, and whether the sensor is reading a representative spot.

If your symptom is not listed, write it as you would say it out loud. Plain descriptions are easier to triage than guessed part names.

Before you book

Questions we answer most days

How often does a split system actually need servicing?

Once a year is right for most homes, booked before the season you rely on it. Go to twice a year if the unit runs most of the year, sits near a busy road or the coast, or lives in a home with pets, renovation dust or a smoker. Filters are a separate, lighter job you can do yourself every few weeks in heavy use.

What is the difference between a filter clean and a full service?

Washing a filter removes the dust you can see. A full service goes past the filter to the indoor coil and the blower wheel, which is where the airflow is really lost, and includes the drain, the electrical connections and the outdoor coil.

It also includes measurement. Without before-and-after readings there is no way to show a clean made any difference, which is the part that matters if your system is underperforming rather than just dusty.

Will you top up the refrigerant while you are here?

Not as routine. A sealed system does not consume refrigerant, so a low charge means there is a leak. Adding gas without finding it hides the fault for a season and then costs you the same money again.

If readings show the charge is genuinely low, we move the job into Lane 03, search the accessible joints, and quote the repair and recharge together.

Can you service a unit your team did not install?

Yes — most of our work is on systems installed by someone else, across all the common brands. Bring any paperwork you have, but it is not required. If a previous install has a problem that limits what a service can achieve, such as a line set with no fall or a head mounted too close to a ceiling, we note it on the service card with what it would take to correct.

Does a service affect a manufacturer's warranty?

The opposite — most manufacturers expect documented routine maintenance, and a missing service history is a common reason a claim gets argued. We keep to the maintenance scope and do not open sealed components or alter factory settings on a unit still in its warranty period. The service card is written to be usable as evidence of maintenance.

How long should I allow for a ducted service?

Two to three hours for a typical home, and longer where zone counts are high or roof access is tight. Most of that time is spent on the return filter, the indoor coil and measuring at each outlet. If the ceiling space is only reachable through a wardrobe hatch, let us know in the notes so we allow for it.

What should I clear before the technician arrives?

Roughly a metre of floor below each indoor head, so a drop sheet and a step ladder fit. Outdoors, clear plants and stored items from the sides and front of the condenser. If a head is above a bed, wardrobe or benchtop, move what you can and we will cover the rest. Keeping pets in another room makes the visit faster for everyone.

Can you invoice a landlord, agent or body corporate?

Yes. Add the billing contact in the notes field and we will send the service card and invoice to them while keeping you updated about the visit itself. For shared systems or work touching a common-property wall, we will tell you which approvals are usually needed before the booking is confirmed.

Tell us the system and the symptom

A short description is enough. We will match it to a lane, confirm the expected visit length, and offer the next two windows in your zone.

  1. 01We read your description and set the lane — or tell you a different lane fits better.
  2. 02You get two window options by email, with the expected visit length.
  3. 03Confirmation includes a short prep list for the areas around each unit.
  4. 04After the visit, the service card arrives the same day.

No obligation. We reply with window options and an expected visit length before anything is booked.
